Our afternoon seminar on May 6th will be about Smoke Management, and it will aim to clear the air about what it takes to design and build an effective smoke management system. Tom Edwards will talk about smoke control strategies and design options. He'll also cover active and passive smoke management strategies and several levels of related code requirements. Tom is president of Ruskin Manufacturing, located in Grandview, Mo. He is a past president of AMCA. Ruskin is a leading producer of air measuring stations, control dampers, tunnel dampers, fire and smoke dampers, louvers and duct silencers for the HVAC industry.

Rolf Jensen & Associates, a leading engineering firm in the field of fire protection and life safety issues, will provide a presenter who will delve more deeply into smoke control designs offering examples of systems to handle smoke management in stairwells and elevator shafts in high-rise buildings, atriums and areas of refuge, and storage facilities.

The afternoon seminar will qualify for 3 professional development hours (PDHs).

Our monthly meeting, which follows the seminar, will feature two more presentations. One will discuss the upcoming ASHRAE Regional Conference, May 15 - 17, at the Englewood Resort in Itasca, Ill. Mark Hegberg, conference chairman for the host Illinois Chapter, will describe the various educational, social and ASHRAE administration programs planned for the event. We'll also use the May 6 meeting to honor 50-year members and Life Members in the Illinois Chapter. Several have received special invitations. Dan Watkins, Membership Chair, will present certificates to all who attend.

The cost for the afternoon seminar is $30, $35 for the dinner meeting, or $65 for both. Parking is available in an enclosed garage across the street from Moretti's. Be sure to get your parking ticket validated at the bar to receive a reduced parking rate.
